School Year 2014-15
Members of FOCUS lead a class meeting on self-control in first grade.
During our class meetings, we use a wooden cross for a talking piece. We pass the cross around the circle and only
when you are holding the talking piece can you talk.
We worked with our prayer partners to make self-control people.
Walking hand in hand to Mass with our buddies on Friday morning.
FRIENDSHIP
First and fifth graders share their last class meeting, play games, and discuss the virtues.
KINDNESS, FRIENDSHIP, And SERVICE
With one of their friends injured and unable to go outside to play, several first grade girls stay inside to be with her and to assist the teacher in cutting out boxtops. Their persistence paid off. They had over 1,000 boxtops and their class had the most for the month. They were treated to an ice cream sandwich.
First graders made cards for their mothers where they expressed their love in words and pictures.
KINDNESS Mass
First Graders joined in holding signs at arrival to invite parents to come to the Virtue Mass.
First graders led the Procession for the Kindness Virtue Mass.
Remember the Kindness collages that we made with our partners back in the fall? We went back to them and with the help of our partners, we added a prayer for kindness to the collages. Then we placed them all over the building so that we could remind the other students to be kind and to ask for help in choosing the kind way to do things.
5G students go to 1D to pick up their partners for Friday mass.
When everyone has found each other, the two classes head over to church for mass. They sit together. Many of the fifth graders help the first graders find their places in the music book and to participate in mass. We love our partners and get so excited when we see them in the hall.
1M worked with their 5K prayer partners to make windsocks celebrating the virtues in March.
As the Winter Olympics began, 1M students thought about how they would spread peace throughout the world.
For Halloween, the students in 1D worked with their prayer partners to make treat bags for children at the Epworth Home in Webster Groves. They decorated the bags and then filled them with candy.
The bags were tied up with ribbon by Mrs. Ostenfeld and delivered to Epworth by Mrs. Bierne.
